RingCentral AI Receptionist Review (2026): What It Costs at Real Call Volume
Last updated: November 2, 2026. All prices are US dollars, checked on RingCentral's site on that date.
The RingCentral AI receptionist (sold as RingCentral AIR) is a conversational AI phone agent for inbound calls. It costs $49 a month standalone, or $39 a month as an add-on for RingEX customers who also pay for the phone plan (about $30 per user). Both include 100 minutes, then $0.50 for every extra minute. It's the cheaper option below roughly 240 minutes a month. Above that, per-minute billing adds up quickly, and at 720 minutes a month it costs about three times as much as a flat plan.
Full disclosure: I run Call Agent AI, which competes with RingCentral AIR. I've described AIR using RingCentral's own published information, named the source for each claim, and said where RingCentral wins.
- Price: $49/month standalone, or $39/month as a RingEX add-on. 100 minutes included, $0.50 per extra minute.
- Break-even: RingCentral standalone is cheaper below about 240 minutes a month. At 720 minutes it costs $359–$379 a month versus $120 on a flat 750-minute plan.
- Inbound only: standard AIR answers inbound calls. I found nothing saying it makes outbound calls.
- CRM: it syncs captured leads into Salesforce, HubSpot, or Zoho after the call. I found no live account lookup during the call.
- Phone line: the standalone plan needs a phone system already pointing calls at it. With RingEX, the Core phone plan adds about $30 per user.
What is the RingCentral AI receptionist?
RingCentral launched AIR in 2025 as an AI voice agent for business calls. It builds its knowledge from your website and uploaded documents, answers common questions, routes callers by name or intent, collects intake details, books appointments through calendar integrations or an SMS link, and sends follow-up texts. According to RingCentral's AI Receptionist page, it also offers multi-location hours and routing, transcripts and recordings, and HIPAA and SOC 2 compliance.
RingCentral publishes customer results too. In its June 2025 announcement, a recruiting firm said the AI handled 93% of its incoming calls. Those are the vendor's chosen examples, so treat them as a best case, not an average.
It's a real product, not a glorified phone menu. The questions that matter are cost at your volume and what happens to the call data afterward.
What does the RingCentral AI receptionist actually cost?
| RingCentral AIR plan | Monthly price | Included minutes | Extra minutes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standalone (bring your own phone system) | $49 | 100 | $0.50/min |
| Add-on to RingEX | $39 + RingEX Core (about $30/user) | 100 | $0.50/min |

The sticker price looks low, and for a business with light call volume it is. RingCentral says nearly 90% of its customers use 100 to 200 minutes a month. But what if your business needs more? Here is one example: a business that uses about 720 minutes a month.
| 720 minutes a month | How it's calculated | Monthly total | Per minute |
|---|---|---|---|
| Call Agent AI, Growth plan | 720 fits inside the 750 included minutes | $120 | about 17¢ |
| RingCentral AIR standalone | $49 + 620 extra minutes × $0.50 | $359 | about 50¢ |
| RingCentral AIR + RingEX Core | $39 + $30 + 620 × $0.50 | $379 | about 53¢ |
Call Agent AI plans are priced so you can see the per-minute cost up front, with overage billed at the same per-minute rate as the plan:
| Call Agent AI plan | Monthly price | Included minutes | Per minute (overage is the same rate) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Growth | $120 | 750 | 16¢ |
| Pro | $225 | about 1,730 | 13¢ |
Where RingCentral wins on price: below about 240 minutes a month, RingCentral's standalone $49 plan costs less than our $120 Growth plan. If you're a low-volume business, that's a real advantage, and you should take it into account.
For perspective on staffing, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics puts the 2025 median pay for receptionists at $38,010 a year ($18.27 an hour), before benefits and payroll costs. At $120 to $225 a month, an AI plan costs roughly 93% to 96% less than that wage alone. It isn't a like-for-like replacement for a person who also greets visitors and handles paperwork.
Where the RingCentral AI receptionist falls short
- Metered pricing. Cost follows talk time. A busy month or a chatty caller raises your bill, as the 720-minute example shows.
- Inbound only. RingCentral describes standard AIR as a front desk for incoming calls. Outbound conversations appear only on AIR Pro, a higher tier in early access. If you want the AI to call back web leads, confirm what your plan covers.
- CRM sync happens after the call. RingCentral lists Salesforce, HubSpot, and Zoho. AIR captures name, phone, and intent, then creates or updates the record. I found no live lookup during the call (more on that below).
- You need a phone line from somewhere. The standalone plan works with an existing phone system through call forwarding or SIP. If you don't have one, RingEX Core adds about $30 per user per month.
- Complex conversations. CloudTalk, itself a competitor, reports weaker performance on complex calls and limited routing flexibility. Treat that as a lead to test, not a verdict.
- Integration coverage. RingCentral marks Calendly, Shopify, and WhatsApp as "coming soon."
Can the RingCentral AI receptionist look up a caller's account or handle emergencies?
It can route by intent and ask custom intake questions, and it syncs what it captured into your CRM afterward. What I couldn't find is a live lookup, where the AI checks your CRM while the caller is still on the line. I also couldn't find urgency grading, meaning the AI deciding "this is an emergency, alert someone now" as a listed feature. Both gaps matter most for service businesses such as HVAC, plumbing, and electrical.
Here is why live lookup matters. A caller says they want to book an appointment. An agent that reads your CRM mid-call matches their phone number, sees they already have an appointment booked, and asks whether to reschedule it instead of double-booking. An agent that only writes to the CRM afterward creates a second record and leaves your team to untangle it.
Here is an illustrative scenario, not a real client story. It's Monday morning and the owner of a two-van electrical company is on a job site. A property manager calls because a retail tenant has no power and can't open. The question isn't whether the phone gets answered. It's whether the owner knows within a minute that this call is different from the other ten that day.
Before you commit to any AI receptionist, call it the way your customers do:
- Open with an emergency ("water is coming through the ceiling") and see whether it escalates.
- Ask something your website doesn't answer and see whether it admits it doesn't know.
- Book an appointment, then call back from the same number and see if it knows about the first one.
- Interrupt it, mumble, and use an accent.
- Check your CRM afterward for clean name, number, and issue fields.
When a purpose-built alternative makes more sense
I built Call Agent AI for one job: answer every call, understand what the caller needs, work with the data already in your systems, and confirm back to the caller. There's no team chat or video meeting product attached. If you want those, RingCentral is the better fit. These are the differences that matter in practice:
- Live CRM lookup during the call. Native connectors for Zoho, Jobber, HubSpot, and GoHighLevel. The agent matches the caller's number, finds the record, and acts on it, such as offering to reschedule an existing appointment.
- Inbound and outbound. Both are included in the plan price.
- Per-minute price shown up front. 16¢ on Growth and 13¢ on Pro, with overage at the same rate.
- Live booking and recap. Cal.com booking happens during the call, and the caller gets an SMS and email recap afterwards.
- Phone number. You can get a number through Telnyx for about $1 to $2 a month. Inbound usage runs under a penny a minute.
- Carrier choice. BYOC and SIP with Twilio, Telnyx, or your own carrier.
- Website widget and setup. A voice and chat widget for WordPress, Shopify, or any site, with setup in under 10 minutes.
You can see how the connectors work on the integrations page, or hear the agent yourself with the live demo. No sales call is needed.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the RingCentral AI receptionist and how does it work?
RingCentral AIR is a conversational AI agent that answers inbound business calls around the clock. It learns your business from your website and documents, answers common questions, routes callers by name or intent, collects intake details, books appointments, and sends follow-up texts. It can run standalone or alongside RingEX.
How much does the RingCentral AI receptionist cost?
Standalone AIR starts at $49 a month, or $39 as a RingEX add-on, with 100 minutes included. Extra minutes cost $0.50 each. A new customer who also needs RingEX Core pays about $30 per user per month on top. At 720 minutes a month, the total is about $359 to $379.
How much does the RingCentral AI receptionist cost per minute?
The base price works out to about 49 cents a minute if you use all 100 included minutes, and extra minutes cost 50 cents each. By comparison, Call Agent AI's Growth plan is about 16 cents a minute and Pro is about 13 cents, with overage at the same rate.
Do I need RingEX to use the RingCentral AI receptionist?
No. The standalone plan works with any business phone system through call forwarding or SIP, and you can keep your existing number. You do need a phone system somewhere. Existing RingEX customers can add AIR for $39 a month instead of paying $49.
Does the RingCentral AI receptionist make outbound calls?
Not on the standard plan. RingCentral describes standard AIR as a front desk for inbound calls. Outbound conversations are listed for AIR Pro, a higher tier in early access. Call Agent AI handles both inbound and outbound calls in its plans.
Does the RingCentral AI receptionist integrate with a CRM?
Yes. RingCentral lists Salesforce, HubSpot, and Zoho, and AIR syncs captured details such as name, phone number, and intent into those records. I found no live lookup during the call. Call Agent AI connects natively to Zoho, Jobber, HubSpot, and GoHighLevel and reads records mid-call.
Can the RingCentral AI receptionist book appointments?
Yes. RingCentral lists appointment scheduling through calendar integrations (Google and Outlook) or by sending callers an SMS booking link. Calendly is marked as coming soon. Test the booking flow in the free trial against your real calendar before relying on it.
What is the best RingCentral AI receptionist alternative for a small business?
It depends on your call volume. Under about 240 minutes a month, RingCentral AIR is usually the cheaper option. At higher volume, or if you need outbound calling and live CRM lookup, a purpose-built agent such as Call Agent AI may fit better. Run the same test calls on each and compare.
